This is my first ever blog post and it’s about a screwdriver. Yeah, that’s right, a screwdriver. Deal with it.

That’s what this blog aims to be. It’s not a news site. There are plenty of great news sites. If you’re looking for one of those, check out the links on the right hand side. This blog will be about all of those things, that piece of gear, that workflow, that bit of information you can’t find anywhere else online. And I know you can’t find it, because I couldn’t find it either. Because I got to page 50 of google search results and found little to nothing as well. And that inspired me to share all of those things, that piece of gear, that workflow, that bit of information you can’t find anywhere online.

And so I begin with a post about a screwdriver. But not just any screwdriver, this one rocks! It’s called “The Stubby” and it’s available from www.filmtools.com. It’s a little pricey at $30 but every thing in the film industry is pricey, so what the heck. What makes this screwdriver so great is that it’s small enough to fit in your pouch or pocket, and yet the T shape gives you lots of leverage so that you can crank screws really tight. I much prefer this to the small flat head style or the 16″ long monstrous flat head screwdrivers that most people use (I have one of these in my ditty as well, just in case). I think this little gem actually works better and tightens screws more.

But perhaps the best part of this tool is the tip. Its got a fatter end so it fits perfectly into the slot of most camera screws and avoids stripping the head of the screw. One thing is for certain though; every time I use The Stubby in front of an assistant, they ask me where I got it and then go out and buy one right away. They’re that good. Better hurry though, Filmtools only ordered a batch of 1000 and I’m sure they sell out quick.
